Der Flüssigkeitsmelder arbeitet nach dem Lichtbrechungsprinzip innerhalb des Messdomes an der Geräteunterseite. Der SWM5 sollte nicht in Lösungsmitteln, die Kunstoffe schädigen, eingesetzt werden (z.B. Azeton, Chlor, Trichlor, …). Der Einsatz in Ölen, z.B. Heizöl / Diesel ist zulässig. Zur einwandfreien Funktion darf der Messdom nicht stark verschmutzen. Wenn Flüssigkeit registriert wird oder die Versorgungsspannung ausfällt, öffnet der Meldekontakt und die rote LED „ALARM“ leuchtet. Das Gerät darf nicht als sicherheitsrelevante Einrichtung verwendet werden.
